About YSN

Young Survivors Network Outreach Ministry, Inc. was founded in 2006 by Charron Y. Walker,  a breast cancer survivor. Young Survivors Network is a source of support and strength for young women 40 years of age and under diagnosed with breast cancer.

Our mission is to educate, support and advocate for young women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. We also equip these women in our community with information and a network of caring members, that are willing to give them the best chance available to cope with cancer.

Careful analysis of the potential market shows a great demand for breast health education that focuses on young women.  According to the American Cancer Society’s Facts and Figures of 2008, it was estimated there would be 182,460 new cases of breast cancer and 40,480 estimated deaths.  One in every 258 women between the ages of 30 and 40 will be diagnosed with breast cancer within the next 10 years, often times alone or without the informational network needed to increase their survival.  Young women with breast cancer struggle with many tough issues: The possibility of early menopause, having children after diagnosis, generally more aggressive cancers and a higher mortality rate.

Our goal is to visit high schools, colleges, churches and hospitals to educate young women on breast health.  This will entail one on one information and support sessions with young women who are newly diagnosed. We will teach young women how to do a self-breast exam, how to look for warning signs and how to discuss their concerns with their physician.

Sincerely,

Charron Y. Walker
